Question by adrian: Where can I find a list of reports, surveys or statistics about alcohol and drug addiction?
I’m looking for more sources about alcohol and drug addiction because I’m finishing my homework. I really love the topic and I really want to present a nice report. I’m not doing this just for the grade but I’m also doing this as a way of spreading awareness so that my classmates will not turn out to be alcoholics and drug addicts.

Well first confront her, seriously, about her problem and let her know how it really makes you feel. I know my 11 year old told me that she wanted to live with her father until I got my drinking under control and it stopped me like a freight train. This will not work with every parent, but it is worth a try.
I have been sober since xmas 2007, and plan to stay that way.
Good luck

Alcohol Addiction Treatment: Proper Treatment Can Set You Free
If you are addicted to alcohols then the time to get over it has arrived. The longer you keep drinking, the more risk it poses to your life. It will not immediately ruin your life. You won’t see the effects in one day or may be not in a year, but day by day you will be loosing your physical strength and immunity. The money that you are paying for buying a bottle of alcohol today will be ten times bigger when you will have to pay for your alcohol addiction treatment tomorrow. So, it is better if you can motivate yourself now only and leave the bad habit of alcohol addiction.
There are rehabilitation centers which are being established with the target of helping one in leaving addiction. So, you can join such centers and learn the adequate and helpful processes of giving up unwanted habits. The total procedure of going for the rehabilitation centers and undergoing the treatment sometimes may be lengthier than what was being expected by you. But still the only weapon that you can use for your welfare is having patience. It is your patience that will teach you to tackle the situations when your willpower is tested. If you can kill your urges of having alcohol and can keep your mind steady at times when you are tempted to drink alcohol, then you will surely win.
While going through the alcohol addiction treatment, you may also loose the strength of your body and may become so weak that you can’t even get out of your bed! You may feel you won’t be able to regain your life ever. But that is the route that you have to pass through, it is the hurdle you have to overcome in order to recover completely. Also, there are helpful and motivating doctors and nurses in the rehabilitation centers that will show you the better ways of living life without alcohol. With support, will power and desire to give up addiction you can come out of the clutches of this monster that’s eating away your life.
You on also do certain things on your own as part of the alcohol addiction treatment. For that you will have to commit in your mind that alcohol is no less than poison and will kill you gradually. You will then have to sum out all good and bad factors of drinking. A determination and dedication to give up this addiction is the first and the most basic step in your treatment. You certainly owe this to, your friends, family and most importantly to yourself.

I grew up with a mother who was an alcoholic. Although I was young, I still knew the only thing you can do is help. Sure, they’ll completely deny it and it’ll all blow up in your face. It’s because telling your mother “You need rehab.” is like telling you, “I’m going to take your car away.” It is an addiction…meaning she cannot stop on her own. The only thing you can do is sit down with her and explain how you feel like your relationship is fucked up. Don’t mention the alcohol until later in the conversation, though. Remember, first step of alcoholism is (1.We admitted that we were powerless over alcohol that our lives had become unmanagable.)
1st step…it’s admitting.

Alcohol is technically a drug. He might have felt cornered and admitted to the lesser of 2 evils. Kinda like a plea bargain. The only way that he might admit a drug problem is if he’s assured that he’s not going to get into any trouble because of it. Meaning – if he admits it and get help for it, he won’t be going to jail. He is probably scared to admit to something like that.

To stop this drug and alcohol addiction, you have to understand it first. Drug and alcohol addicts keep using drugs and alcohol not because they like it or just feel like doing it, but you must understand that this is a disorder in the brain, the hormones keep compelling the individual to do this, and it is very hard, if not impossible to fight with this phenomenon.
Nevertheless, it is possible to overcome an addiction.Using drugs and alcohol can have some serious emotional and physical effect to the individual already addicted to it.It can alter the areas of self control, memory, emotions, and even judgement.Furthermore, the most negative consequences of alcohol usage is the change in emotions towards friends and family members.
Alcohol addiction actually starts due to various reasons, might be the need to erase a bad day’s feeling, forget someone that just broke your heart, or just for the fun of it.While this can bring you short term relief, this can cause a slow progression of alcohol and drug addiction once done consistently.
Drug addiction is something that you should take serious, if someone is affected with drug usage, he or she should speak up and try as much as possible not to hide this issue, also inculcate the habit of avoiding self blame, be more positive about yourself, tell people you know can help you, as you know, a problem shared is half solved.
In conclusion, i must make clear that drug and alcohol addiction is clearly a problem that comes with its inevitable physical and emotional trauma, but however, it should not be overlooked, and also treatment should not be forced upon the individual, it is all a matter of choice at the end of the day,the most important thing is for the addict to understand where he or she is heading to, and with a little advice and motivation, the addict would definitely start to seek help and want to quit the habit once and for all.

I HAD NO CONTROL – MY ADDICTION CONTROLLED ME! The CATHIE ROHLOFF Born Again Christian Testimony

Cathy was the last of eight children. For different reasons, she felt unloved and unaccepted. When her parents divorced, that created even a bigger hole inside her fractured soul, and so she soon started drinking alcohol to dull her pain. That then lead to drug addictions of all sorts, but alcohol still played a major part in her life. A frightening thing happened to her from the very beginning of drinking alcohol. She would have memory blackouts of what had happened while she had been drinking, and this continued frequently — having no recollection of what she may have done the evening before. After one particular drinking binge, she woke up underneath her bed, not having any idea how she got there. Going outside her house later on, she found her car smashed to bits, but had no idea how that had happened either. Having two children to tend for at the time, she didn’t know if the children had been with her or with a babysitter when the accident had happened. This was a turning point in her life. This was when reality began to fully sit in. Alcohol controlled her life, and she was totally powerless to do anything about it. Yet at her lowest point, while attending an AA meeting … God showed up, and she reached out and grabbed the “life-saver” God tossed to her!
